This is an easy way to complete driver education in the convenience of your own space but don’t be fooled by the convenience as this course covers a lot of important information and testing is done throughout the course.

PEN issues official Department of Motor Vehicles certificates and is the recognized leader in California for at-home driver education. Courses meet California 's Provisional Instruction Permit requirements for persons under 18 years of age. This is the only home study course studied and tested by the California DMV. The DMV study shows that PEN’s courses are as good as or better than conventional driving school classroom instruction. Of course we’ve always known this but it just sounds better coming from DMV.

Our program is very simple. It is designed to accommodate the expert and the novice Internet user. You log on this web site and enroll on-line. Or, you may call us and register in just minutes on the telephone and begin immediately! You also have the option to enroll by mail or fax.

When you register, students choose their own password and username to gain access to the program immediately. Once registered, students have 30-days from the date of enrollment to complete the course. We bring convenience and a proven method that thousands of teen drivers have successfully used.

You may ask for assistance at any time from a teacher via email, telephone or online when the teacher is monitoring your course. The course is divided into thirteen sections. Once you read through sections and answer quiz questions; you will answer and submit individual section final exams. The computer will grade the tests and you will know immediately if you have passed. You can work from any computer in the world as all your work is maintained on our site and has nothing to do with the computer your sign in through.

Within 10 business days of successful completion of our course, we will send you your DMV certificate of completion via USPS first class delivery.  At the end of the course, you may request an expedite mailing of your certificate for an additional $25 charge.  However, the tuition includes the entire program and first class delivery of your completion certificate. If you do not pass, you will be able to retake our program immediately at no additional charge.

Students going beyond the 30-day course schedule will incur a $25 extension fee. Extension fees are payable to PEN and may be requested online by email or by phone 408-280-1122 or 800-349-1123.

We created our program to be as convenient as possible for the student. It is designed as an alternative to a driver education classroom program, and you work at your own pace around your schedule. You may participate in the program by using your access code and complete the reading in increments of time. The goal is for you to comprehend and absorb the materials.
